Sephora Haul- 01

Hi, my name is Megan and I am a Sephora addict. Hi Megan.

It’s one of the greatest pleasures in my life, browsing through the Sephora website and reading reviews and finding the things that take my breath away. Then getting the package in the mail and opening it up and going through it. Oh, it just makes me so happy. Opening a Sephora package is almost orgasmic.

Anyway, I order from Sephora…a lot. Like…a lot, a lot. It’s my hobby. Skin care, beauty, makeup…it’s what makes me happy and I know that I have at least some talent in that field.

So this is the first of what I’m sure will be many hauls. I didn’t get a lot this time around, basically all skincare and mostly Sephora brand skincare.

IMG_7902

01. Sephora Collection Clay Mask: Grey. These adorable little packages are supposed to have 4 uses in each one. I’ve seen a few reviews from people saying that they lasted for 9 or 10 uses. The grey mask is supposed to be for ‘skin balancing and mattifying’. I am super excited to use this.

02. Sephora Collection Clay Mask: Blue. This one is supposed to be for ‘detoxifying and oxygenating’. It also says that this one is an exfoliant mask. I’m excited to use this one too and I can’t wait to buy more if they work well.

03. Sephora Collection Sleeping Mask: Algae. My best friend has gotten some of these sleeping masks before and she loves them so I knew that I had to try it, too. The blue algae mask is supposed to be for ‘purifying and detoxifying’ which sounds great for a hot summer season.

IMG_7904

04. Sephora Collection Sleeping Mask: Ginseng. I’m looking forward to trying this one. It’s supposed to be for ‘toning and firming’. I know that I’m still young but I am 25 and when it comes to anti-aging products, we all know that it is better to prevent than try to reverse and I think it might start being time to work on keeping my youthful skin. Toning is a good step.

05. Karuna Skin Clarifying Duo. Summer is a stressful time for me and I get stress related acne which means that I now have far too many pimples on my chin that hurt and leave red marks. It’s terrible. This is a cool product. It’s a two step process that begins with little spot treatment that you put on a pimple and a sheet mask that you ut on over top of it.

IMG_7906

06. Origins Flower Fusion Sheet Mask: Raspberry Refreshing. Origins is one of my favourite skin care brands. My skin just reacts well to it and everything that I have tried has been amazing. They’ve recently put out sheet masks and I’m super excited to use these. The raspberry mask is supposed to be very refreshing and revitalizing.

IMG_7905

07. Origins Flower Fusion Sheet Mask: Orange Radiance. I can’t wait to try this one, too. The orange is supposed to add radiance for a healthy glow. This should be good to use to really wake my skin up.

08. Boscia Luminizing Black Mask (deluxe sample). I’ve been looking at this mask for a long time but I’ve never bought it. When I saw it in the options for a free sample, I couldn’t help myself. It’s a lot bigger than I thought it was going to be and I can’t wait to use it.

09. Tatcha The Water Cream (deluxe sample). I’ve been hearing incredible things about this brand but it’s very expensive so I was excited to see it in the point rewards section. I’m looking forward to using this to see if it’s worth the money.

IMG_7907

10. CoverFX Custom Enhancer Drops (deluxe sample): Moonlight. This is another product that I’ve been looking at for a while but it’s got a pretty big price tag and I didn’t want to buy it without trying it first.

11. Perfume Samples: Clean, Viktor & Rolf, Balenciaga. I love perfume samples. Perfume is something that makes me so happy. I love trying out as many as I can.

I’ll let you know how I feel about these things once I give them a try. You never know, they might just end up in my August Favourites post!

All my love,
Megan xoxo

Smoky Mountains

Here in Alberta, we’ve had a rather smoky summer. There are wildfires all over British Columbia and the smoke has been hanging around the valley. It sucks, it really does. It could be a lot worse, however. There are so many people who have been evacuated and lost their homes due to this fire. We’re lucky to just have to deal with smoke. Anyway, we decided to drive a little way out of town to get some fresh air and I thought I would share some photos here.

2017 Favourites – May and June

Last month was a hard month for me. Fuck, I’ll be honest. The past few months have been a little hard on and off. I really slacked as far as blogging goes and then the fact that the charging cord for my computer broke didn’t help matters. But no matter! I have plenty of favourites to share with you since I didn’t get around to doing my May favourites. Buckle up! We’re on a roller coaster that only goes up, friends.

IMG_7788

01. Purple Shampoo/Conditioner. I recently dyed my hair. I’m naturally a dirty, dark blonde; kind of leaning a bit more on the brown side. I’m also starting to go grey and I have a patch of pure white hair. So I’ve added more blonde to my hair and I think that in the future, I might want to go a bit more towards white. All of that being said, my hair routine has gotten a lot more involved. I wanted t buy a purple shampoo and conditioner to balance out any yellow tones in my hair and this combo from Drybar had amazing reviews. I love it. It smells like salon shampoo, it makes my hair feel soft and healthy, and it really helps my blonde. I am totally in love with this stuff.

IMG_7791

02. Ouai Dry Shampoo Foam and Texturizing Spray. I recently spoke about this in my last blog post so I won’t go on and on again. You can find that post HERE.

03. Ouai Rose Hair and Body Oil. Again, I just did a post about Ouai products so you can find that at the link above.

04. Sheet Masks. I think that I need an intervention. I am in love with sheet masks. No. That’s not the right word. I am OBSESSED with sheet masks. They feel so good on my skin, I can try a bunch of different brands that I might not try normally, and they’re just fun. I almost never place an order from Sephora without adding on at least one sheet mask. These masks from Dr. Jart have been some of my favourite but I love so many different kinds.

05. Candles. My best friend and I recently went to Edmonton on a shopping trip and while there, we stopped into Bath and Body Works. Their candles are some of my favourite and I like getting a few for the new season. These spring candles make my heart happy.

IMG_7793

06. Nest Perfume. I love perfume. It’s a weakness that I can’t afford. A good perfume just pulls everything together and I decided to spring and get this one. I love Nest as a brand but this one, called Indigo, is a lovely scent. It’s unlike anything that I’ve ever worn before. The site says that it’s an ‘exotic’ scent with notes of Moroccan tea, Kashmir wood, cardamon, wild fig, and bergamot. I adore it.

IMG_7795

07. David’s Tea. I am a tea drinker. I am a tea lover. Going into spring and summer, I love fruity and light teas. I got the Oasis collection from David’s Tea so that I could try out a bit of everything. I also got this amazing travel cup that makes it really easy to turn any tea into an iced tea. It’s been perfect for around the house and at work.

IMG_7790

08. Too Faced Bronzer. I had heard about this chocolate bronzer before but I’ve always been a little nervous about getting something like this because I am so bloody pale. I’ve always been worried that it would make me look orange or fake. What I really like about this bronzer is that it’s very build-able. It also blends out really easily so it doesn’t make me look like I’m trying too hard. Plus…it smells like chocolate. What?!

IMG_7792

09. Origins Lotion. Origins has been a company that’s been good to my skin. I got this lotion and I adore it. It has a rather watery texture but it still adds a lot of moisture to my skin. It’s great for warmer seasons.

IMG_7796

10. Juice Beauty Serum. I’ve had some pretty bad hormonal and stress pimples lately so I wanted to get something that would help. This serum promises to clear blemishes and it does just that. I put this on the other night when I started to get a bad zit on my chin and in the morning, it was almost gone.

IMG_7794

11. Loreal Mascara. This is the feline mascara and I LOVE it. I have been looking for a decent mascara from the drug store and I wanted something new so I picked this one out. It’s very fluttery and I love how big it makes my lashes look. It reminds me of a Lancome mascara that I have. I think it’s a good dupe.

12. Real Her Liquid Lipstick. I got this in the spring Fab Fit Fun box. It’s really good quality. In the picture, it looks a little glossy but it dries down to a matte and it does not budge. I have to scrub this off at the end of the day which is exactly how I like my lipstick.

IMG_7797

13. Melodrama by Lorde. I can’t begin to tell you how happy I am that Lorde has new music out. This album has been so much fun to listen to. She’s such an incredible artist and this album has been on repeat.

14. Harry Style’s by Harry Styles. I really wasn’t sure what to expect from his solo career but I was pleasantly surprised. He’s made some rather wonderful music and the whole album has just been such a joy to listen to.

15. Hasan Minhaj’s Home Coming King. I’ve been a fan of Hasan for a while now from his stuff on The Daily Show. I think he’s hilarious. So I was thrilled when I saw that he had a special coming to Netflix. He did not disappoint. I’ve never seen a comedy special like this. It’s part show, part special, part motivational speech. There is so much love and attention in this piece and I’ve already watched it a few times.

Brand Focus: Ouai Haircare

In the past year, I’ve really been trying to focus on finding good haircare and good skincare. I wanted to invest in products that I really love, not just what looked alright at the drugstore.

I’ll give you a bit of my hair background: I have rather picky hair that is a bit of a mess to try and tame. It’s frizzy and big and a bunch of different textures. Parts of my hair are curly, some parts are straight, some are wavy. It’s thick and just a pain in my ass. It’s also coloured, so there is some damage.

So I started to pick up a few products from the Ouai line and I am officially obsessed. This stuff is amazing. I’ve gotten my hands on a few things and there is still so much more that I want. I’ll break it down for you in the order that I would use these.

IMG_7783

01. Curl Shampoo and Conditioner. Let me start by saying that as far as ‘curl’ goes, I really haven’t noticed much of a difference. My hair needs more ‘wave’ products. That being said, my hair feels so soft and healthy after I use this. My hair is light and fluffy and easy to work with. I think that the next time I buy shampoo/conditioner from Ouai, however, I’m going to get the ‘clean’ or the ‘volume’ version.

02. Hair Oil/Rose Hair and Body Oil. I love oil. All oils are my favourite oils. I love body oil, hair oil, face oil, shower oil. I adore both the hair oil and the new rose oil from Ouai. I find that the original oil is thicker than the rose oil but they are both fantastic. I honestly can’t tell you which one I like more.

03. Wave Spray. I can’t live without wave spray. I’ve tried a few different kinds but this one is my favourite. I sort of butterfly my hair while I spritz this in and then scrunch the product up. It not only makes my hair wavy, but it gives a lot of texture and body.

IMG_7785

04. Finishing Creme. I only have a small, sample size of this creme but I am desperately trying to hold onto the last bits. I adore this. I’ve never really used products like this before but I am obsessed. Again, it adds so much body and texture.

05. Texturizing Hair Spray. Are you seeing a theme? I adore texture. I love messy, sexy, just got out of bed, model off duty, didn’t try too hard hair. This texturizing spray adds immediate volume and body and lift.

06. Dry Shampoo Mousse. Dry shampoo is something that I am really, really picky with. I don’t like most dry shampoos that I try but this one just melts into my hair. It dries without leaving any gross residue and it doesn’t make my hair feel sticky. It’s a miracle.

IMG_7786

There are a few more things that I want to try. My best friend has been using their treatment mask for months now and she loves it. I really can’t praise this brand enough. It’s fantastic.

Astrological Questionnaire

It’s been a long time since I’ve posted anything on this blog so I thought I would do a little something to get to know me better. I found this online and decided to fill it out. Hope you like it!

aries: what are you passionate about? I’m passionate about writing and being creative and expressing myself in whatever way that might be…blogging, creative writing, make up, painting, photography, crafts…whatever.

taurus: name 3 of your favourite books. How on earth am I supposed to pick?! The Harry Potter Series by JK Rowling. The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. The Crucible by Arthur Miller.

gemini: what was the last text you sent? I’m sure that it was something to my mother, probably saying that I was on my way or complaining about something.

cancer: if you could choose your child’s zodiac sign, what would it be? Probably cancer, pisces, libra, or scorpio

leo: name something you love about yourself. These types of questions are harder than I wish they would be. I think that I’m a really caring and loving person and I think that’s one thing I really like about myself.

virgo: what’s your #1 pet peeve? I really don’t like people who disagree with you just to disagree. I’ve known some people who just want to turn everything you say into a debate or a fight and it’s just a negative energy that I don’t need in my life.

libra: describe your dream partner. Someone who is caring and strong and passionate. I like someone who can have fun but also knows when it’s time to be serious. Someone just…down to earth and real.

scorpio: do you trust easily? I think that in some ways I do and in some ways, I don’t.

sagittarius: if you could travel to any place in the world, where would it be? I’d really like to travel around Africa and Europe is high on my list, too.

capricorn: what’s your dream job? Writer. Blogger. Creator.

aquarius: do you believe in aliens? Yeah, I guess. I mean…the universe is so big and vast and we know so little about it. It seems very egotistical to think that humans are the only intelligent life.

pisces: what is your Myers-Briggs type? I am always an INFJ whenever I take the quiz.

sun: describe yourself in 3 words. Compassionate. Emotional. Smart.

moon: what’s your favourite song? My favourite song changes. There are so many different songs that I love for so many different reasons and moods. Wild Horses by The Rolling Stones is a big one. Bon Iver’s entire album, For Emma, Forever Ago, is incredible and it gives me goosebumps every time. It all depends! And of course, The Killers have inspired the name of this blog with their song, Shot at the Night

rising/asc: how would you describe your style? I wish that I had the money and the ability to wear my style. I like all black everything. I like pieces that are a little bit sexy, a little bit mysterious, a little bit grunge. Minimal, simple, with statement pieces.

mars: are you easily angered? No, not really. I might get annoyed and frustrated and I’ll bitch about whatever it is but I never get really angry and I never really lash out.

venus: what’s your aesthetic? I like black and white. I like minimalist and simple. I like cozy. I enjoy things that might be a little darker and there are pieces of me that are still stuck in my rocker teen years but I like to think it’s a little more sophisticated. What’s the new thing I’ve seen on Buzzfeed? Post-Hipster? New Hipster? Yeah..something like that.

mercury: what color do you talk in? A friend of mine once told me that she sees me as a light blue.

jupiter: what moral do you live by? Be kind. The world needs kindness. Be kind, be loving, be gentle, be you.

saturn: what’s your biggest fear? On a surface level…bees and wasps, holy shit. On a deeper level…I guess I would say that I’m afraid of being alone, of not being enough.

uranus: are you rebellious? I think that in someways, everyone can be a little rebellious.

neptune: share one of your dreams. I had a very strange dream once that all of my loved ones were in a circle, facing me. They didn’t have arms or legs and I had a box full of arms and legs to give out but I was one pair of limbs short and it was up to me to decide who would go without.

pluto: what’s the biggest thing you’ve learned by far in your life? Trust yourself and trust your gut. If your body and soul is telling you something, just do it.

lilith: do you have any guilty pleasures? I think the thing that makes me feel most guilty is when I indulge in certain foods. I’m an emotional eater so I’ll have a bad day and make myself feel better by eating a box of Kraft Dinner or something like that.

chiron: have you ever broken a bone? Yes. I fell off my bike and I broke my foot. Lesson learned: don’t bike when there is ice on the ground.

ceres: are you a momfriend? I’m totally the mom.

pallas: do you have a good relationship with your parents? I do, actually. My mom is one of my best friends and I’m blessed enough to have a fantastic step-dad and a wonderful dad.

juno: do you believe in soul mates? I do, yeah. I’ve met people who are like my friend-soul mates. Sometimes you meet someone and you just feel like you’ve known them forever and it’s like they understand your spirit, your soul. I’ve experienced that with friends so why shouldn’t I be able to experience that in a romantic partner?

1st house: are you confident? Sometimes, I can be confident but for the most part, I struggle with having any sort of confidence.

2nd house: if you could only keep one of your personal items, what would you choose? This is really hard. I’d like to think that I would keep sentimental things like pictures but then I also would want to keep something like my bed because that’s my happy place. I think, however, I would keep something like my computer. It has everything that I need on it and it has all of those sentimental pictures, too.

3rd house: do you like to read? I LOVE to read! I don’t read like I used to and I miss that but I still adore reading.

4th house: what does your bedroom look like? Cozy! I like soft fabrics and I like having little knick knack around that make me happy, like my beauty products and my crystals and my candles. Honestly, though, it’s not up to what I want it to be but I’m getting there. I want to really invest my time and money in my room. I like white and minimalistic. I like the…Scandinavian/Ikea look, to be honest.

5th house: name your favourite movie or show. My favourite TV show is One Tree Hill. I think that’s it’s a beautifully written show, it’s entertaining and fun. It’s also really shaped me as a person and taught me a lot about life. My favourite movie is RENT for the exact same reasons. It touched me and moved me and changed my life.

6th house: do you participate in community service? I wish I could say that I do but I really don’t. At this point in my life, I don’t have the time or the energy to really give my all.

7th house: if you could choose, what zodiac sign would you like your dream partner to be? Scorpio! I am a Pisces and I’ve been told that Scorpio is my ideal partner. I’ve read what Scorpio/Pisces pairings are supposed to be like and it sounds awesome. Emotional and passionate and loving. Apparently.

8th house: do you believe in reincarnation? I don’t have a full answer to this question. I think that in someways, I do. My mom always joked and said that if you had a recurring dream or something, it was probably something in a past life. I think that fundamentally, I do believe in reincarnation.

9th house: what’s your favourite quote? I have so many different quotes that I love but one that I keep going back to is: “Do not let your fire go out, spark by irreplaceable spark in the hopeless swamps of the not-quite, the not-yet, and the not-at-all. Do not let the hero in your soul perish in lonely frustration for the life you deserved and have never been able to reach. The world you desire can be won. It exists.. it is real.. it is possible.. it’s yours.”

10th house: are you good at public speaking? NOT AT ALL! I’m awful! It’s one of the worst things that I ever have to be put through. I can hardly tell a story to a group of friends at a bar with more than 5 people.

11th house: what sign(s) is your best friend/squad? I have noticed that I am surrounded by Libras. Libra, Gemini, Cancer, Leo.

12th house: do you like to be alone? I love my alone time. I need to get my social fix in every once in a while but being alone is my happy place. Being a Pisces, I tend to really take on energy from everyone around me and I need to spend time alone to rest and recharge and just be with myself.

2017 Favourites – April

Is it just me or has April gone by in the blink of an eye? I don’t know where this month went, I really don’t. The weather has been getting me down lately, to be honest with you. I haven’t been in the best headspace and I think it had to do with the fact that it’s so cold and rainy and gross out. I just want spring! So here are a few of the things that have made me happy during this grey month.

IMG_7690

01. Bento Box. I’ve wanted to get one of these pretty little bento boxes that I kept seeing on Instagram and Pinterest. I try to make sure that I am bringing food with me to work so that I am eating well and saving money. I finally got myself one of these boxes and have been loving it. It makes it fun to pack a lunch the night before and it’s just so pretty!

02. Converse Sneakers. Wearing these sneakers make me feel like myself. Like many people my age, I had a strong emo phase as a teenager and Converse sneakers were part of my uniform. I’ve wanted to get a new pair of these shoes for a long time and I finally got them. I’ve been wearing them almost every single day and every time that I look down at them, they make me so very happy.

IMG_7692

03. Gypsy 05 Roundie. This month, I got my first FabFitFun box and in this one, it came with this blanket. I adore mine. I think it’s so very pretty and while the weather has been crap, I’m really looking forward to taking this blanket down to the park in the summer with a good book. It just makes me feel good. It’s making me look forward to the summer.

04. Dr. Brandt Exfoliator. Skin care is something that I’ve really gotten invested in when I turned 25. I really want to protect my skin and make sure that it’s looking it’s best. I got this exfoliator in my FabFitFun box and have included it into my skin care routine. So far, it’s been really nice. I like the way it makes my skin feel and it smells really clean.

05. Deborah Lipman Nail Polish. Again, another little pick from my FabFitFun box. I am a lover of nail polish and this set has been adorable for spring. This blue just makes me so happy.

IMG_7691

06. Haute Mess Pouch. This pouch is just adorable and it’s a great size. I’ve been using it as a catch all in my daily bag but it was great as a purse when I went out once and I think it’s going to be fantastic for travelling.

07. Karuna Sheet Masks. I adore sheet masks and just masks in general. I love how relaxing they are and these particular masks are so calming and moisturizing. I am really liking them and I’m looking into trying other products from this line.

IMG_7693

08. Striped Cold Shoulder Top. My wardrobe is lacking. I have a hard time buying clothes for myself. I always have reasons to not buy things I like. However, I decided to just go for it and get this top from Forever21. I love it. I love the way it makes me feel and I got a ton of compliments when I last wore it. I love how good it makes me feel.

17903931_1316022211849118_7474599568802508782_n

09. L’Oreal True Match Lumi Highlighter. As far as makeup goes, I am trying to dip my toes into the world of highlighters. There are many higher end products that I want to try but until I get there, this drug store highlighter is fantastic.

10. Whispers of Love Oracle Cards. These cards were a gift to me from my best friend a while ago. I played with them a lot when I first got them but then I stopped playing with them and I’ve recently picked them up again. They’re wonderful cards, full of love.

IMG_7694

11. Bubbles. I am so happy!!! Bubbles were a lovely easter gift from my best friend’s mom and they make me so happy. Bubbles are just the best, guys.

12. Origins Original Skin Essence Lotion. Back to skincare, I am loving this lotion. It has a rather watery consistency and I really like it. It’s not heavy like a lotion but it’s moisturizing like a lotion. It’s some kind of magical skin potion and I am loving it.

Books and Coffee: Book Club 01

Hello!

I don’t know about you, but I love to read. I’ve always loved reading. It was a sort of escape for me. I could travel the world, see creatures that don’t exist, fall in love, and save the human race; all without leaving my bedroom.

IMG_7681

I’ve also stopped reading like I used to. When I was a young adult, I would go through a book a week. It took me almost nothing to get wrapped into a book and it would become my life. I didn’t waste my nights watching TV or Youtube videos. I came home from school, dropped everything, and picked up a book. I want to read like I used to. I want to get wrapped up in a book and love every single minute of it again.

So I’ve decided to start a book club of sorts (thanks for the inspiration, Oprah!). I’m going to pick a new book and read through it and then let you know what I think about it. I will then announce what the next book is going to be and we’ll start again! My hope is that you enjoy the reading as much as I do and decide to join me. I hope that you at least enjoy reading these posts and maybe I can help inspire you to read.

The first book that I will be reading is Barbarian Days: A Surfing Life by William Finnegan. It’s a book that I’ve had sitting on my shelf for a little while but I’m finally going to pick it up!

IMG_7678

In about a month, I hope to have another post out telling you what I think about it.

Happy reading, my friends!

Sleepless Nights: A Nighttime Routine

In my last favourites post, I wrote briefly about how I have always had issues sleeping. I think it’s partly genetic and I know that it’s partly to do with my anxiety. I’ve always had different issues with sleeping. Either I can’t fall asleep and toss and turn for hours or I fall asleep easily but I keep waking up through the night or I have nightmares that keep me from really getting any rest. Sometimes, I’m just a mess. I think one of the most common sentences out of my mouth is ‘god, I’m really tired‘.

So over the years, I’ve come up with a few different methods and things that help me out and I have a full on routine that helps me get the best sleep possible. I don’t do all of it all at once and I don’t always do this (even though I really need it) but I try to remember these tips and tricks and usually something helps.

01. My first step, especially if I think of it far enough in advance, is to wash my bedding. There is nothing better than crawling into bed and having fresh, clean bedding. I try to set it all up so it’s as comfortable as possible. Personally, I like a nest of pillows and my giant feather duvet. It just comforts me and helps me rest.

02. Before I get ready for bed, I like to have a long shower. Being clean and fresh makes me feel a lot more renewed and relaxed. I’ll take my time and do a hair mask or a face mask, use my favourite products, all of it. I especially love to shave my legs because that just makes those clean sheets feel so, so good.

03. After my shower, I’ll lather on the lotion that I’m loving at any particular moment. My favourite is the Karma Cream from Lush. I love the musky smell of it and it makes my skin feel super soft and moisturized. I love how it makes me feel and the scent relaxes me.

IMG_7674

04. I have a nighttime skin care routine that I like to do as much as I can. I am getting older and it’s better to take care of your skin early before it’s too late. Prevent instead of reverse, type of thing. The best sort of routine to take care of your skin and get as much out of your products as possible is as follows: cleanser, toner, eye cream, serum, moisturizer/oil. Most of the products that I own are samples of things I have gotten from Sephora. My goal is to find the perfect products and I am finding the things I like and want, they’re just expensive. So I’m slowly building it up as I go.

IMG_7673

05. My bedside table is my place of zen. As a lot of people with depression will tell you, sometimes it’s really hard to try and get yourself together enough to clean. It can be really hard to pull myself up and clean my room sometimes, just because I don’t have it in me. So what I try to do is make sure that at least my bedside table is clear. I have my rose face spray, my cream, my lip balm, and other little things that calm me down and feel like home, like candles and crystals, and a glass of water.

IMG_7662

06. Another thing I like to do before I crawl into bed is make myself a cup of something warm to drink. My first option is a cup of calming tea. Mother’s Little Helper from David’s tea or a chamomile tea or any other herbal tea is a great place to start. Another option that I like is this warm milk drink that I have perfected over the years. Calcium is supposed to be good at making you sleepy so I’ve started doing this. I froth up some milk before I heat it up in the microwave. Once it’s nice and hot, I like adding a splash of vanilla and cinnamon and a touch of brown sugar.

IMG_7675

07. I have a few apps that I like to use, mainly white noise apps but a few meditation apps. I use these things when my mind is racing and I can’t just settle down. I find a guided meditation gives my mind something to focus on so I can fall asleep easier.

Image

08. There are a few other little techniques that I like to use. One is box breathing, which is breathing in for four seconds, holding your breath for four seconds, breathing out for four seconds, and holding it for four seconds. You do this four or five times, however much you need to, and it relaxes you.

There’s also a technique to relax your body by tensing every muscle in your body for a few seconds then releasing it, starting at your toes and going up to your head.

I’ve been working on this for a very long time so I’ve found a few things that help me. I hope that this was any help to you, too.

Mental Health Break

My friends and family know that I do not have the healthiest brain in the world and I’ve casually mentioned that I’ve been dealing with mental health issues in previous posts, but I wanted to talk more in depth about it today so bear with me.

For a very long time, I have lived with depression and anxiety. It’s become something about myself that I am learning to accept and work with. I think that denying it and hiding it is just going to make it worse.

Lately, I’ve been having a bit of a heard time. Certainly not at my worst but I have been in a funk. It’s been a struggle to get up in the morning and work through the day and I certainly haven’t been sleeping well (I’ve been having the same anxiety nightmare for about 2 weeks now).

For me, the first step is always just accepting that I feel the way that I feel. Once I just accept that I am not feeling well and I am not at my best, I can take care of it. I think that my first instinct is to pretend that nothing is wrong and that I’m okay but then I get frustrated because accomplishing simple tasks feels impossible. Then I end up feeling even worse about myself and it just gets worse.

So I like to take mental health days. I’m lucky enough to be surrounded my people who support me and care about me and I’m also lucky enough to work in a place where I have manager who I consider a friend, so talking to her is easy.

If you need a day or two or three to feel better, do it. It helps. Accept how you’re feeling and allow yourself the time you need to heal. You’ll benefit in the end.

Take care of yourself ❤

2017 Favourites – March

It’s that time of the month again! I am really enjoying making these posts. It’s just positive vibes. The stuff that I am loving in the past month. It just makes me feel good to think back on all the things that have brought me joy. So without further ado…my favourites from March!

01. Wardley Betta Fish Pellets. Let’s star off with some of Sirius’ favourite things…I got this new food for him while I was at Walmart and he loves it. If you’re in the market for some fish food, this is great. Pellets are a hell of a lot easier to clean out too, by the way.

02. Lavender Sleep Spray. As I’ve said before and I will say again, sleep is something that seems to elude me. My whole family seems to have issues with sleep as we all get together and talk about what we’re doing to help us sleep. Lavender scents have always helped me relax and so I found this spray from a local shop in town and it’s been wonderful. You just spray it on your pillows and sheets before you go to bed and it just relaxes you so much.

03. Nature’s Bounty: Hair, Skin, and Nails Gummies. I adore these gummy vitamins. They taste good and they seem to really be helping! It’s always good to tae vitamins to help your body and I quite like these.

04. Adult Essentials Multivitamin Gummies. These are some other gummy vitamins that I have been enjoying. They taste good and they seem to help. I’ve always had a hard time remembering to take my vitamins but for some reason, I am finding it really easy to remember to eat these gummy vitamins. Maybe it’s just because they taste so good!

05. Sephora Cleansing Wipes, Micellar Milk, and Cream Face Wash. I spoke about these in my last post about rose. They’re good quality and I love that they’re all in a rose scent. There’s just something about good skin care that makes me so happy.

06. Food, Health, and Happiness by Oprah Winfrey. So Oprah is my hero and my best friend, Erin, is my hero for getting me this book for my birthday. I just adore everything Oprah and this book is no exception. She provides us with the most amazing recipes and funny stories and it’s just been a fantastic read.

07. Bumble and Bumble Don’t Blow It. This is a cream that you run through your hair out of the shower and it helps to enhance your natural texture while keeping your hair healthy and soft. My hair has been loving it and it really is soft after using it.

08. Canada Dry Blackberry Ginger Ale. So ginger ale is my favourite. It’s just one of the best drinks ever in my opinion and over the holidays, they had a cranberry flavoured ginger ale that I LOVED. When they took it off the shelves, I was crushed. But then I discovered this new blackberry ginger ale and it is SO GOOD. If you’re a ginger ale lover, give it a try.

09. Origins Original Skin Face Mask. As I have said, I adore good skin care and this mask is GOOD. My skin is so soft and bright and alive after using it and because it’s a mud mask, it is really amazing for clearing acne, too. It’s just fantastic. It has this exfoliating texture that you sort of scrub in after it’s dried on your face and it changes everything for the better.

10. Pencil Case. I needed a new pencil case and I was looking around the Chapters sight and I finally found this one. I love white and I love minimal designs and this pencil case is exactly what I was looking for. Besides, it feels so much more grown up to use this instead of something hot pink that you get in the school supplies section of Walmart.

11. Spring Mug. Another find from Walmart, thanks to Erin. This mug has made me so very happy. I got a pretty bowl to go with it. It just makes having my morning coffee or my evening tea feel so happy. It looks like spring! God, I can’t wait for flowers and sunshine and bike rides again.

12. L’Oreal Colorista Semi-Permanent Hair Dye. I gave this a try and fell in love! My hair is a little too dark for it but I do have white hairs that picked up the colour really well. It’s basically a hair dye that is supposed to last for only 4 to 8 shampoos and it comes in quite a few colours. I grabbed pink and I loved it. It’s just fun to have some colour in my hair again.

13. Post It Notes. Pretty stationary makes me happy. These post it notes and from the Colours of the World collection and these colours are inspired by Bali. I adore that they’re not neon colours and the size is perfect for writing lists.

12. Tarte Blush in Paaarty. This was part of the birthday present from Sephora and it’s brilliant. It’s such a universally flattering shade and the quality of Tarte blushes are just to die for!

13. Australian Outback Messenger Bag. This is a rediscovery for me. I’ve had this bag for a long time but I have picked it up again and have been using it as my regular bag for the past month. I love the way it looks and it’s fantastic quality. It’s just a great bag.

14. Fish Tank Accessories. Near the beginning of the month, I got a new fish tank for my fish and just in the past week, I was able to get a few more things for it. I’ve been loving decorating it and playing with it. It’s fun and it’s been nothing but enjoyable.

15. Divide by Ed Sheeran. Let me just start off by saying that I have been in love with Ed Sheeran for a very, very long time. I always feel really hipster when it comes to Ed. He got really famous on his second album and especially with his song Thinking Out Loud. I have been listening to his music since his first album came out and every time there is a new Ed Sheeran album, I listen to it to death. This is pretty well the only album that I’ve been listening to and it’s AMAZING. I still love every moment of it.

What are the things that you have been loving?
