2017 Favourites – May and June

Last month was a hard month for me. Fuck, I’ll be honest. The past few months have been a little hard on and off. I really slacked as far as blogging goes and then the fact that the charging cord for my computer broke didn’t help matters. But no matter! I have plenty of favourites to share with you since I didn’t get around to doing my May favourites. Buckle up! We’re on a roller coaster that only goes up, friends.

IMG_7788

01. Purple Shampoo/Conditioner. I recently dyed my hair. I’m naturally a dirty, dark blonde; kind of leaning a bit more on the brown side. I’m also starting to go grey and I have a patch of pure white hair. So I’ve added more blonde to my hair and I think that in the future, I might want to go a bit more towards white. All of that being said, my hair routine has gotten a lot more involved. I wanted t buy a purple shampoo and conditioner to balance out any yellow tones in my hair and this combo from Drybar had amazing reviews. I love it. It smells like salon shampoo, it makes my hair feel soft and healthy, and it really helps my blonde. I am totally in love with this stuff.

IMG_7791

02. Ouai Dry Shampoo Foam and Texturizing Spray. I recently spoke about this in my last blog post so I won’t go on and on again. You can find that post HERE.

03. Ouai Rose Hair and Body Oil. Again, I just did a post about Ouai products so you can find that at the link above.

04. Sheet Masks. I think that I need an intervention. I am in love with sheet masks. No. That’s not the right word. I am OBSESSED with sheet masks. They feel so good on my skin, I can try a bunch of different brands that I might not try normally, and they’re just fun. I almost never place an order from Sephora without adding on at least one sheet mask. These masks from Dr. Jart have been some of my favourite but I love so many different kinds.

05. Candles. My best friend and I recently went to Edmonton on a shopping trip and while there, we stopped into Bath and Body Works. Their candles are some of my favourite and I like getting a few for the new season. These spring candles make my heart happy.

IMG_7793

06. Nest Perfume. I love perfume. It’s a weakness that I can’t afford. A good perfume just pulls everything together and I decided to spring and get this one. I love Nest as a brand but this one, called Indigo, is a lovely scent. It’s unlike anything that I’ve ever worn before. The site says that it’s an ‘exotic’ scent with notes of Moroccan tea, Kashmir wood, cardamon, wild fig, and bergamot. I adore it.

IMG_7795

07. David’s Tea. I am a tea drinker. I am a tea lover. Going into spring and summer, I love fruity and light teas. I got the Oasis collection from David’s Tea so that I could try out a bit of everything. I also got this amazing travel cup that makes it really easy to turn any tea into an iced tea. It’s been perfect for around the house and at work.

IMG_7790

08. Too Faced Bronzer. I had heard about this chocolate bronzer before but I’ve always been a little nervous about getting something like this because I am so bloody pale. I’ve always been worried that it would make me look orange or fake. What I really like about this bronzer is that it’s very build-able. It also blends out really easily so it doesn’t make me look like I’m trying too hard. Plus…it smells like chocolate. What?!

IMG_7792

09. Origins Lotion. Origins has been a company that’s been good to my skin. I got this lotion and I adore it. It has a rather watery texture but it still adds a lot of moisture to my skin. It’s great for warmer seasons.

IMG_7796

10. Juice Beauty Serum. I’ve had some pretty bad hormonal and stress pimples lately so I wanted to get something that would help. This serum promises to clear blemishes and it does just that. I put this on the other night when I started to get a bad zit on my chin and in the morning, it was almost gone.

IMG_7794

11. Loreal Mascara. This is the feline mascara and I LOVE it. I have been looking for a decent mascara from the drug store and I wanted something new so I picked this one out. It’s very fluttery and I love how big it makes my lashes look. It reminds me of a Lancome mascara that I have. I think it’s a good dupe.

12. Real Her Liquid Lipstick. I got this in the spring Fab Fit Fun box. It’s really good quality. In the picture, it looks a little glossy but it dries down to a matte and it does not budge. I have to scrub this off at the end of the day which is exactly how I like my lipstick.

IMG_7797

13. Melodrama by Lorde. I can’t begin to tell you how happy I am that Lorde has new music out. This album has been so much fun to listen to. She’s such an incredible artist and this album has been on repeat.

14. Harry Style’s by Harry Styles. I really wasn’t sure what to expect from his solo career but I was pleasantly surprised. He’s made some rather wonderful music and the whole album has just been such a joy to listen to.

15. Hasan Minhaj’s Home Coming King. I’ve been a fan of Hasan for a while now from his stuff on The Daily Show. I think he’s hilarious. So I was thrilled when I saw that he had a special coming to Netflix. He did not disappoint. I’ve never seen a comedy special like this. It’s part show, part special, part motivational speech. There is so much love and attention in this piece and I’ve already watched it a few times.

Astrological Questionnaire

It’s been a long time since I’ve posted anything on this blog so I thought I would do a little something to get to know me better. I found this online and decided to fill it out. Hope you like it!

aries: what are you passionate about? I’m passionate about writing and being creative and expressing myself in whatever way that might be…blogging, creative writing, make up, painting, photography, crafts…whatever.

taurus: name 3 of your favourite books. How on earth am I supposed to pick?! The Harry Potter Series by JK Rowling. The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. The Crucible by Arthur Miller.

gemini: what was the last text you sent? I’m sure that it was something to my mother, probably saying that I was on my way or complaining about something.

cancer: if you could choose your child’s zodiac sign, what would it be? Probably cancer, pisces, libra, or scorpio

leo: name something you love about yourself. These types of questions are harder than I wish they would be. I think that I’m a really caring and loving person and I think that’s one thing I really like about myself.

virgo: what’s your #1 pet peeve? I really don’t like people who disagree with you just to disagree. I’ve known some people who just want to turn everything you say into a debate or a fight and it’s just a negative energy that I don’t need in my life.

libra: describe your dream partner. Someone who is caring and strong and passionate. I like someone who can have fun but also knows when it’s time to be serious. Someone just…down to earth and real.

scorpio: do you trust easily? I think that in some ways I do and in some ways, I don’t.

sagittarius: if you could travel to any place in the world, where would it be? I’d really like to travel around Africa and Europe is high on my list, too.

capricorn: what’s your dream job? Writer. Blogger. Creator.

aquarius: do you believe in aliens? Yeah, I guess. I mean…the universe is so big and vast and we know so little about it. It seems very egotistical to think that humans are the only intelligent life.

pisces: what is your Myers-Briggs type? I am always an INFJ whenever I take the quiz.

sun: describe yourself in 3 words. Compassionate. Emotional. Smart.

moon: what’s your favourite song? My favourite song changes. There are so many different songs that I love for so many different reasons and moods. Wild Horses by The Rolling Stones is a big one. Bon Iver’s entire album, For Emma, Forever Ago, is incredible and it gives me goosebumps every time. It all depends! And of course, The Killers have inspired the name of this blog with their song, Shot at the Night

rising/asc: how would you describe your style? I wish that I had the money and the ability to wear my style. I like all black everything. I like pieces that are a little bit sexy, a little bit mysterious, a little bit grunge. Minimal, simple, with statement pieces.

mars: are you easily angered? No, not really. I might get annoyed and frustrated and I’ll bitch about whatever it is but I never get really angry and I never really lash out.

venus: what’s your aesthetic? I like black and white. I like minimalist and simple. I like cozy. I enjoy things that might be a little darker and there are pieces of me that are still stuck in my rocker teen years but I like to think it’s a little more sophisticated. What’s the new thing I’ve seen on Buzzfeed? Post-Hipster? New Hipster? Yeah..something like that.

mercury: what color do you talk in? A friend of mine once told me that she sees me as a light blue.

jupiter: what moral do you live by? Be kind. The world needs kindness. Be kind, be loving, be gentle, be you.

saturn: what’s your biggest fear? On a surface level…bees and wasps, holy shit. On a deeper level…I guess I would say that I’m afraid of being alone, of not being enough.

uranus: are you rebellious? I think that in someways, everyone can be a little rebellious.

neptune: share one of your dreams. I had a very strange dream once that all of my loved ones were in a circle, facing me. They didn’t have arms or legs and I had a box full of arms and legs to give out but I was one pair of limbs short and it was up to me to decide who would go without.

pluto: what’s the biggest thing you’ve learned by far in your life? Trust yourself and trust your gut. If your body and soul is telling you something, just do it.

lilith: do you have any guilty pleasures? I think the thing that makes me feel most guilty is when I indulge in certain foods. I’m an emotional eater so I’ll have a bad day and make myself feel better by eating a box of Kraft Dinner or something like that.

chiron: have you ever broken a bone? Yes. I fell off my bike and I broke my foot. Lesson learned: don’t bike when there is ice on the ground.

ceres: are you a momfriend? I’m totally the mom.

pallas: do you have a good relationship with your parents? I do, actually. My mom is one of my best friends and I’m blessed enough to have a fantastic step-dad and a wonderful dad.

juno: do you believe in soul mates? I do, yeah. I’ve met people who are like my friend-soul mates. Sometimes you meet someone and you just feel like you’ve known them forever and it’s like they understand your spirit, your soul. I’ve experienced that with friends so why shouldn’t I be able to experience that in a romantic partner?

1st house: are you confident? Sometimes, I can be confident but for the most part, I struggle with having any sort of confidence.

2nd house: if you could only keep one of your personal items, what would you choose? This is really hard. I’d like to think that I would keep sentimental things like pictures but then I also would want to keep something like my bed because that’s my happy place. I think, however, I would keep something like my computer. It has everything that I need on it and it has all of those sentimental pictures, too.

3rd house: do you like to read? I LOVE to read! I don’t read like I used to and I miss that but I still adore reading.

4th house: what does your bedroom look like? Cozy! I like soft fabrics and I like having little knick knack around that make me happy, like my beauty products and my crystals and my candles. Honestly, though, it’s not up to what I want it to be but I’m getting there. I want to really invest my time and money in my room. I like white and minimalistic. I like the…Scandinavian/Ikea look, to be honest.

5th house: name your favourite movie or show. My favourite TV show is One Tree Hill. I think that’s it’s a beautifully written show, it’s entertaining and fun. It’s also really shaped me as a person and taught me a lot about life. My favourite movie is RENT for the exact same reasons. It touched me and moved me and changed my life.

6th house: do you participate in community service? I wish I could say that I do but I really don’t. At this point in my life, I don’t have the time or the energy to really give my all.

7th house: if you could choose, what zodiac sign would you like your dream partner to be? Scorpio! I am a Pisces and I’ve been told that Scorpio is my ideal partner. I’ve read what Scorpio/Pisces pairings are supposed to be like and it sounds awesome. Emotional and passionate and loving. Apparently.

8th house: do you believe in reincarnation? I don’t have a full answer to this question. I think that in someways, I do. My mom always joked and said that if you had a recurring dream or something, it was probably something in a past life. I think that fundamentally, I do believe in reincarnation.

9th house: what’s your favourite quote? I have so many different quotes that I love but one that I keep going back to is: “Do not let your fire go out, spark by irreplaceable spark in the hopeless swamps of the not-quite, the not-yet, and the not-at-all. Do not let the hero in your soul perish in lonely frustration for the life you deserved and have never been able to reach. The world you desire can be won. It exists.. it is real.. it is possible.. it’s yours.”

10th house: are you good at public speaking? NOT AT ALL! I’m awful! It’s one of the worst things that I ever have to be put through. I can hardly tell a story to a group of friends at a bar with more than 5 people.

11th house: what sign(s) is your best friend/squad? I have noticed that I am surrounded by Libras. Libra, Gemini, Cancer, Leo.

12th house: do you like to be alone? I love my alone time. I need to get my social fix in every once in a while but being alone is my happy place. Being a Pisces, I tend to really take on energy from everyone around me and I need to spend time alone to rest and recharge and just be with myself.

2017 Favourites – April

Is it just me or has April gone by in the blink of an eye? I don’t know where this month went, I really don’t. The weather has been getting me down lately, to be honest with you. I haven’t been in the best headspace and I think it had to do with the fact that it’s so cold and rainy and gross out. I just want spring! So here are a few of the things that have made me happy during this grey month.

IMG_7690

01. Bento Box. I’ve wanted to get one of these pretty little bento boxes that I kept seeing on Instagram and Pinterest. I try to make sure that I am bringing food with me to work so that I am eating well and saving money. I finally got myself one of these boxes and have been loving it. It makes it fun to pack a lunch the night before and it’s just so pretty!

02. Converse Sneakers. Wearing these sneakers make me feel like myself. Like many people my age, I had a strong emo phase as a teenager and Converse sneakers were part of my uniform. I’ve wanted to get a new pair of these shoes for a long time and I finally got them. I’ve been wearing them almost every single day and every time that I look down at them, they make me so very happy.

IMG_7692

03. Gypsy 05 Roundie. This month, I got my first FabFitFun box and in this one, it came with this blanket. I adore mine. I think it’s so very pretty and while the weather has been crap, I’m really looking forward to taking this blanket down to the park in the summer with a good book. It just makes me feel good. It’s making me look forward to the summer.

04. Dr. Brandt Exfoliator. Skin care is something that I’ve really gotten invested in when I turned 25. I really want to protect my skin and make sure that it’s looking it’s best. I got this exfoliator in my FabFitFun box and have included it into my skin care routine. So far, it’s been really nice. I like the way it makes my skin feel and it smells really clean.

05. Deborah Lipman Nail Polish. Again, another little pick from my FabFitFun box. I am a lover of nail polish and this set has been adorable for spring. This blue just makes me so happy.

IMG_7691

06. Haute Mess Pouch. This pouch is just adorable and it’s a great size. I’ve been using it as a catch all in my daily bag but it was great as a purse when I went out once and I think it’s going to be fantastic for travelling.

07. Karuna Sheet Masks. I adore sheet masks and just masks in general. I love how relaxing they are and these particular masks are so calming and moisturizing. I am really liking them and I’m looking into trying other products from this line.

IMG_7693

08. Striped Cold Shoulder Top. My wardrobe is lacking. I have a hard time buying clothes for myself. I always have reasons to not buy things I like. However, I decided to just go for it and get this top from Forever21. I love it. I love the way it makes me feel and I got a ton of compliments when I last wore it. I love how good it makes me feel.

17903931_1316022211849118_7474599568802508782_n

09. L’Oreal True Match Lumi Highlighter. As far as makeup goes, I am trying to dip my toes into the world of highlighters. There are many higher end products that I want to try but until I get there, this drug store highlighter is fantastic.

10. Whispers of Love Oracle Cards. These cards were a gift to me from my best friend a while ago. I played with them a lot when I first got them but then I stopped playing with them and I’ve recently picked them up again. They’re wonderful cards, full of love.

IMG_7694

11. Bubbles. I am so happy!!! Bubbles were a lovely easter gift from my best friend’s mom and they make me so happy. Bubbles are just the best, guys.

12. Origins Original Skin Essence Lotion. Back to skincare, I am loving this lotion. It has a rather watery consistency and I really like it. It’s not heavy like a lotion but it’s moisturizing like a lotion. It’s some kind of magical skin potion and I am loving it.

Books and Coffee: Book Club 01

Hello!

I don’t know about you, but I love to read. I’ve always loved reading. It was a sort of escape for me. I could travel the world, see creatures that don’t exist, fall in love, and save the human race; all without leaving my bedroom.

IMG_7681

I’ve also stopped reading like I used to. When I was a young adult, I would go through a book a week. It took me almost nothing to get wrapped into a book and it would become my life. I didn’t waste my nights watching TV or Youtube videos. I came home from school, dropped everything, and picked up a book. I want to read like I used to. I want to get wrapped up in a book and love every single minute of it again.

So I’ve decided to start a book club of sorts (thanks for the inspiration, Oprah!). I’m going to pick a new book and read through it and then let you know what I think about it. I will then announce what the next book is going to be and we’ll start again! My hope is that you enjoy the reading as much as I do and decide to join me. I hope that you at least enjoy reading these posts and maybe I can help inspire you to read.

The first book that I will be reading is Barbarian Days: A Surfing Life by William Finnegan. It’s a book that I’ve had sitting on my shelf for a little while but I’m finally going to pick it up!

IMG_7678

In about a month, I hope to have another post out telling you what I think about it.

Happy reading, my friends!

2017 Favourites – March

It’s that time of the month again! I am really enjoying making these posts. It’s just positive vibes. The stuff that I am loving in the past month. It just makes me feel good to think back on all the things that have brought me joy. So without further ado…my favourites from March!

IMG_7647

01. Wardley Betta Fish Pellets. Let’s star off with some of Sirius’ favourite things…I got this new food for him while I was at Walmart and he loves it. If you’re in the market for some fish food, this is great. Pellets are a hell of a lot easier to clean out too, by the way.

02. Lavender Sleep Spray. As I’ve said before and I will say again, sleep is something that seems to elude me. My whole family seems to have issues with sleep as we all get together and talk about what we’re doing to help us sleep. Lavender scents have always helped me relax and so I found this spray from a local shop in town and it’s been wonderful. You just spray it on your pillows and sheets before you go to bed and it just relaxes you so much.

03. Nature’s Bounty: Hair, Skin, and Nails Gummies. I adore these gummy vitamins. They taste good and they seem to really be helping! It’s always good to tae vitamins to help your body and I quite like these.

04. Adult Essentials Multivitamin Gummies. These are some other gummy vitamins that I have been enjoying. They taste good and they seem to help. I’ve always had a hard time remembering to take my vitamins but for some reason, I am finding it really easy to remember to eat these gummy vitamins. Maybe it’s just because they taste so good!

IMG_7649

05. Sephora Cleansing Wipes, Micellar Milk, and Cream Face Wash. I spoke about these in my last post about rose. They’re good quality and I love that they’re all in a rose scent. There’s just something about good skin care that makes me so happy.

06. Food, Health, and Happiness by Oprah Winfrey. So Oprah is my hero and my best friend, Erin, is my hero for getting me this book for my birthday. I just adore everything Oprah and this book is no exception. She provides us with the most amazing recipes and funny stories and it’s just been a fantastic read.

07. Bumble and Bumble Don’t Blow It. This is a cream that you run through your hair out of the shower and it helps to enhance your natural texture while keeping your hair healthy and soft. My hair has been loving it and it really is soft after using it.

08. Canada Dry Blackberry Ginger Ale. So ginger ale is my favourite. It’s just one of the best drinks ever in my opinion and over the holidays, they had a cranberry flavoured ginger ale that I LOVED. When they took it off the shelves, I was crushed. But then I discovered this new blackberry ginger ale and it is SO GOOD. If you’re a ginger ale lover, give it a try.

09. Origins Original Skin Face Mask. As I have said, I adore good skin care and this mask is GOOD. My skin is so soft and bright and alive after using it and because it’s a mud mask, it is really amazing for clearing acne, too. It’s just fantastic. It has this exfoliating texture that you sort of scrub in after it’s dried on your face and it changes everything for the better.

10. Pencil Case. I needed a new pencil case and I was looking around the Chapters sight and I finally found this one. I love white and I love minimal designs and this pencil case is exactly what I was looking for. Besides, it feels so much more grown up to use this instead of something hot pink that you get in the school supplies section of Walmart.

IMG_7648

11. Spring Mug. Another find from Walmart, thanks to Erin. This mug has made me so very happy. I got a pretty bowl to go with it. It just makes having my morning coffee or my evening tea feel so happy. It looks like spring! God, I can’t wait for flowers and sunshine and bike rides again.

12. L’Oreal Colorista Semi-Permanent Hair Dye. I gave this a try and fell in love! My hair is a little too dark for it but I do have white hairs that picked up the colour really well. It’s basically a hair dye that is supposed to last for only 4 to 8 shampoos and it comes in quite a few colours. I grabbed pink and I loved it. It’s just fun to have some colour in my hair again.

13. Post It Notes. Pretty stationary makes me happy. These post it notes and from the Colours of the World collection and these colours are inspired by Bali. I adore that they’re not neon colours and the size is perfect for writing lists.

12. Tarte Blush in Paaarty. This was part of the birthday present from Sephora and it’s brilliant. It’s such a universally flattering shade and the quality of Tarte blushes are just to die for!

IMG_7645

13. Australian Outback Messenger Bag. This is a rediscovery for me. I’ve had this bag for a long time but I have picked it up again and have been using it as my regular bag for the past month. I love the way it looks and it’s fantastic quality. It’s just a great bag.

14. Fish Tank Accessories. Near the beginning of the month, I got a new fish tank for my fish and just in the past week, I was able to get a few more things for it. I’ve been loving decorating it and playing with it. It’s fun and it’s been nothing but enjoyable.

IMG_7641

15. Divide by Ed Sheeran. Let me just start off by saying that I have been in love with Ed Sheeran for a very, very long time. I always feel really hipster when it comes to Ed. He got really famous on his second album and especially with his song Thinking Out Loud. I have been listening to his music since his first album came out and every time there is a new Ed Sheeran album, I listen to it to death. This is pretty well the only album that I’ve been listening to and it’s AMAZING. I still love every moment of it.

What are the things that you have been loving?

Self Care: It’s All Coming Up Roses

Self care is a big thing in my life and it’s something that I try to focus on as much as possible. It helps me function through the week. There are a variety of different things I use to help myself relax and come back down to earth and settle down a little bit. I’ll be writing posts about those in the future. This post is about rose.

I love rose. I think it goes back to being a kid. I remember my mom always have a rose body wash and a rose body cream. I remember going on walks with her and she would literally stop everything to smell the roses (I grew up in a province that is known for its wild roses). They say that certain smells are the things that can trigger memories and for me, when I smell roses, it takes me back to the comfort of my mother. There’s just something so comforting about it for me.

So while rose has a lot of sentimental value to me, I’ve also been learning about the benefits of rose. It’s really good for you!

IMG_7619

They say that drinking rose tea can help with…
01. Menstrual pains
02. Boosting your immune system
03.Improving your digestion
04. Helping reduce stress and anxiety
05. Weight loss

And then as far as cosmetics go, rose is FULL of vitamin C and they say that is promotes essential collagen production (which keeps your hair and skin healthy). I’ve been told that rose will help improve acne, it’s incredibly brightening, and also naturally moisturizing (so it doesn’t leave you feeling oily and gross)

As the years have gone on, I have really developed a collection of rose items and I don’t even have everything that I want yet. These are a few of the things that I really enjoy.

01. Naked 3 from Urban Decay
02. Rose Bombshell Bath Bomb from Lush
03. Rosewater Balancing Mist from Jurlique
04. Creme de Rose Lip Balm from Dior
05. Original Skin Retexturizing Mask with Rose Clay from Origins
06. Rose Micellar Cleansing Milk from Sephora
07. Revved Up Nail Polish from Formula X
08. Rose Gold Watch from Michael Kors
09. Rosewater Hand and Body Cream from Crabtree and Evelyn
10. Paaarty Blush from Tarte
11. Piece of Cake Juicy Shaker from Lancome
12. R0se Quartz
13. Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks from Kat Von D
14. Rose Cleansing Cream from Sephora
15. Serenity Now Tea from David’s Tea
16. Rose Cleansing Wipes from Sephora

Rose feels like a power colour for me. It feels like something I need in my life. They say that rose quartz is the stone of ‘unconditional love and infinite peace’ and that it ‘draws off negative energy and replaces it with loving vibes’.

In all, it just makes me feel really friggin good. I think that finding just one thing, one simple thing, like roses, will help be the first step in learning to take care of yourself.

Bullet Journal

Bullet Journalling is something that I had wanted to get into for a very long time. I saw it online at least 2 years ago, probably more, but I never really had a chance to focus on it. This fall, around September, I finally got myself a journal and I’ve been obsessed with it ever since.

I’ve been wanting to write a post about my bullet journal for a while but I didn’t want to write anything until I had a layout and a system that worked for me. This month, I think that I’ve finally found something that I feel really comfortable with. I can make it look rather pretty but it’s still functional for me.

I’ve heard a lot of people say that they can’t get into bullet journals because they don’t have the time or the creative ability, or whatever. I get that. It seems like a lot of time and energy to put into something that’s essentially a planner. For me, my bullet journal has been almost like a source of self care.

IMG_7585

As someone who has anxiety, my bullet journal really helps. Planning everything out on paper makes it easier for me to really sort of map everything out and visually see how my week is going to go (I don’t like surprises, I don’t like being thrown into something I didn’t prepare for, it makes me nervous). It’s also the time in my day or my week that I can zen out. I can put on my favourite show or some relaxing music, like some candles, and work on my journal. It just makes me happy.

I’ve found that this minimalistic weekly theme works for me. There’s less that I have to think about on a daily basis and I have more space to sort of, dump my thoughts and ideas through the day.

IMG_7591

IMG_7592

I’ve also really enjoyed using the tape chart to keep track of my moods. I like being able to look back on a month and see how it went for me. I like being able to see if I had a good month or a bad month and if there is anything I can do to change it for the next month.

IMG_7590

I’ve created a few different pages that I’ve been having fun with, like bookshelf to put in the books that I read, my birth chart so that I can have it on hand, a page to plan out my meals for the week, blog post ideas, and my yearly tarot reading.

IMG_7589

IMG_7596

It’s just been a space for me to relax and do something for myself that also makes me feel like an adult. I am fully obsessed. It feels so very good.

2017 Favourites – February

It’s that time of the month! Favourites time! I don’t have a ton of favourites for this month, it seemed to really fly by and I ended up just using a lot of the same favourites from last month. I do have a few things, however, that I wanted to talk about.

01. Addition Elle Bra. I think that every woman should have a bra and underwear set that makes them feel sexy. Doesn’t matter if there is someone who is seeing it or not. You walk through the world differently when you feel sexy. As a plus size woman who has always struggled with my weight, being able to feel good is HUGE. Since teaming up with Ashley Graham, Addition Elle has come up with some incredibly beautiful pieces that fit and feel sexy.

02. Love Crunch Granola in Aloha Blend (Pineapple, Coconut, and White Chocolate). I spoke about my favourite breakfast in my last post and this granola is to blame for that. I’ve really been loving the flavours and it’s a good quality granola. I can’t wait to buy more!

03. Lokai Bracelet. I’m sure that you know about this bracelet. It contains mud from the Dead Sea and water from Mount Everest, reminding us to stay humble in times of success and have hope in times of struggle. It’s a bracelet that I have wanted for a very long time and I finally decided to get it this month. I have been loving it. They recently put out a bracelet that is an orange colour with a portion of the proceeds going to support a mental health charity and boy, do I want that bracelet!

04. Welcome to Paradise, Now go to Hell by Chas Smith. This is a book that I have read before. I adored it. I truly loved this book. I needed a book to read one day and I just grabbed this one and I have fallen back into it. It’s a memoir by Chas Smith about his time on the North Shore of Oahu and the surf culture there. It’s about the locals and their fierce protection of their waves and the way that these local manipulate the surf brands that hold their competitions at Pipeline. If you’re into surfing, I recommend this book, it’s a fascinating read.

05. Dr. Jart+ Pore Minimalist Sheet Mask. Skin care is one of my favourite things in the world and I love sheet masks. I decided to try out this one. It’s the first product I’ve ever had from Dr. Jart+ but I love it and I plan on buying more of the sheet masks to try them all out!

06. Sally Hansen Therapy Nail Polish in Re-Nude. It’s been a while since I’ve gotten a nail polish from the drug store but the colours in this line had been calling my name. I will say that it’s hard to get this to look opaque on the nails. I have to do quite a few thin coats of the stuff to get it to how I want it to be. That being said, this colour is worth it. It’s the perfect nude for me and I am in love. I love a good nude.

07. Tombow Dual Brush Pens Portrait Set. I have mentioned these pens in a previous favourites and will likely talk about them more in a future post about my bullet journal. I recently got myself this set that I’ve wanted for a very long time that has all of these dusty pinks and muted nudes and I adore it.

08. Hard Candy Tea. This is another rediscovery this month. I adore this tea from the David’s Tea summer collection and lately, I’ve been craving fruity teas. I picked this one back up and I am loving it. It’s a refreshing blend of apple, sour cherries, cranberry, coconut, kiwi, and more. It’s so bright and fruity and it’s really been picking up my spirits.

09. Tapestry. I got this piece above my bed as a gift and it’s my new favourite piece in my room. My mom and I put twinkle lights up behind it and it’s given my room such a cozy vibe. I love it. It makes me happy every single time that I see it.

10. Riverdale. This is a show that I never thought I would like. I wasn’t sure about it when I saw the promo and then I really wasn’t sure when I first started watching it. However, I am totally sucked in. I am obsessed. It’s an awesome, awesome show. It reminds me of all the things I liked from the first seasons of Pretty Little Liars and Vampire Diaries. It’s smart and funny and thrilling and sexy and I can’t wait to see what they do next.

11. Sirius. I love having pets. I truly believe that a pet will bring so much love into your life. I, unfortunately, can’t have cats or dogs in my apartment. I would love nothing more than getting a cat but we’re not allowed. So I decided that I wanted a fish. It was still a living thing that I could love and look after and care for but I wasn’t breaking any rules. So when my best friend was going to the next town over (where the nearest pet store is) and she asked me if I wanted her to pick me up a fish, I said YES! I’ve named him Sirius and he’s the highlight of my day. I’m getting him a new tank to live in soon and I can’t wait to spoil him. He’s my baby 🙂

12. Last Week Tonight with John Oliver. I have loved John Oliver for a while and I’ve always liked this show but I recently really got into it instead of casual viewing and I’ve been obsessed. I feel like I’ve learnt something after watching one of his clips.

Wardrobe Essentials

I can’t begin to explain how badly I want a new wardrobe. I don’t have many pieces in my closet that I’m comfortable in and I’ve avoided certain styles for a long time because I didn’t think I had to body to pull them off.

I’m tired of not wearing clothes I’m comfortable in because I don’t feel comfortable in my skin. I’m tired of hiding in clothes that fit just because trying to find stuff is exhausting. I want to embrace my body for how it is, right now. I need to learn to love myself exactly as I am and I need to not get clothes because I don’t think they’ll look good. I need to get clothes that make me feel like a million bucks.

So here is a list of pieces that I think are an essential in any wardrobe and I guess it’s a bit of a wish list, too.

01. Leather Jacket. Who doesn’t love a leather jacket? I have wanted one for so long now. It’s so classic and simple and looks good with everything but it also makes you feel like a badass and I am into that. All I want in my life is this jacket. I am so, so in love.

02. Jeans. A solid pair of jeans is something I’m learning to love. I used to love skinny jeans like the good emo kid I was but I stopped wearing them for a while. Basically, I felt really self conscious in jeans and went into just wearing leggings and sweats but I’m starting to love a good pair of jeans again.

03. Basic Tees. These match with everything and everyone needs basic tees in their closet. They are comfortable and casual but with the right accessories, they can be glammed up. Personally, I like more neutral colours and I LOVE black but you could really get whatever you’re comfortable with. I can never have too many white, black, and striped tees hanging around.

04. Leggings. I am very particular when it comes to my leggings. I have been wearing the Wunder Under Leggings by Lululemon for years and I never plan on wearing anything else. They are so comfortable and they feel like a second skin. I can’t say enough good things about these.

05. Cozy Sweaters. I live in Canada. I live in a mountain town in Canada. There is nothing better than wearing a super cozy sweater and curling up with a cup of tea. Nothing.

06. Little Black Dress. A little black dress is iconic for a reason. Paired with boots, a scarf, and a cardigan, it’s a simple and casual outfit. With a sparkly necklace and heels, it becomes the perfect night out dress. Everyone needs to have an amazing LBD.

07. Converse All Star Sneaker. These shoes have been my favourite for a very, very long time. As my emo teen self, I wore black and green and red high tops that I decorated with song lyrics and doodles and duct tape and of course, a large anarchy A. As a twenty-something who is trying to be taken seriously as an adult, all I want in my closet is a pair of black low tops, easy to wear every single day.

08. Denim Shirt. I love denim shirts so much. One of my favourite ways to wear them is with a pair of black leggings, a white tee and a simple pair of sneakers with the denim shirt left open. I’ll pair it with a scarf and I am good to go. Casual and comfortable but still stylish.

09. Lingerie. I believe that every woman needs a piece of lingerie that makes them feel like a goddess. Even if there is no one looking at it, even if there is no one who you could be wearing it for, having on pretty underwear makes you feel like a bad ass and it makes you feel sexy and powerful. Treat yo self.

10. Scarf. I’m a fan of scarves. They’re so cozy and can bring colour into an outfit and they’re functional. I especially love scarves that are big enough to use as a blanket when you’re travelling. I adore the vinyasa scarf from Lululemon as much as I love the leggings. It has these buttons on the side so you can adjust it and change it to fit however you would like or you can unbutton it and use it like a blanket. It’s perfect.

Midnight Wondering – 22.01.17

“Never be afraid to raise your voice for honesty and truth and compassion against injustice and lying and greed. If people all over the world…would do this, it would change the earth.”  ― William Faulkner

I am so inspired right now.

After seeing all of the tweets and Instagram posts and articles and photos of the marches that took place all over the world yesterday, I am feeling so inspired.

There is a lot of injustice in this world and there is a lot of injustice in our own society. I think that we try and see the world through rose coloured glasses but those are glasses that need to come off. I’m not saying that you can’t have hope. You should have hope. But those glasses, that make you see life as if nothing is wrong, need to go. They don’t look good with your outfit.

I hate using this word because it’s started to come along with such a negative connotation, but that being said, I think that everyone needs to acknowledge their own privilege. One of the first things you need to learn is whether or not you have a step us and that having a step up in one area of your life does not make you a bad person. Do not let people think that because you’ve had some sort of privilege, you’re an awful human being. Facing it in the mirror is step one, though. I cannot pretend that because I am a white Canadian, I haven’t had it easier. I’ve never had to worry about how someone was going to look at me or judge me based on the colour of my skin. I have never felt a fear in the pit of my stomach when I see a police officer and I have never had to fight against a society that has been against my brothers and sisters for centuries.

I am a woman and I know the struggle that we have had to face. I know the inequality and double standards that we fight against every single day, at home and across the globe. There are so many women and girls who do not have access to proper health care, who do not have the same dreams and goals as the boys in their class because they’re not being told that it’s a choice for them.

I think that step two is taking a moment to pause and listen and learn. I am still learning exactly how I can help and how I can make a difference. I have been watching some really wonderful movies and reading some lovely articles that have put things into perspective. I highly recommend that everyone watch the film 13th about race in the US criminal justice system. I’ve also adored the film Miss Representation about how women are represented in our society and the effects it has.

I don’t know. I’m only barely scratching the surface of this topic but seeing the protests and what not in the wake of Trump being sworn in as president is just so inspiring to me and that’s what’s been on my mind all week. Seeing people stand up for what they believe in, make signs and go out to fight for what they believe is right, is so, so inspiring to me. I’ve had this rush of pride in my fellow women and I have this feeling in my heart that I can do anything and I’m worthy of it all.

Peaceful protests have brought change. That can’t be argued, it’s just a fact of history. Peaceful protests and marches have give women the right to vote, it brought civil rights to African Americans…it’s brought change, and I am so inspired and proud to be part of a generation that is fighting again. I hope that you’re feeling inspired too and I hope that when you get the chance to stand up and fight or sit back and wait, you decide to stand.

And you can tell me that it’s pointless, you can call me whatever name you want, you won’t change my mind. I am a nasty woman and I am fighting for other nasty, beautiful, strong, powerful women all over the world.
